Assignment Description:
It seems that everyone has their own thoughts on how we can improve education in the United States. As a class, we have broadly discussed education, responding together to a variety of texts. For this assignment, you will respond to TWO texts (see list below). Your response should include:
• A summary of the main claim present in both texts
• Your thoughts on each text
o Do you agree? Disagree? Agree with certain parts?
o What do you think about the strength of the main claim or argument being presented? Are there flaws in the reasoning?
• At least two quotes from both sources, used appropriately and explained in your writing, in a way that is relevant to the point you are making.
• Your own thoughts on education, based on our class discussions and the texts you have encountered
Grading:
I will grade your assignment based on the following questions:
– Did the student accurately represent and summarize two texts?
– Did the student respond to the texts in a way that shows thoughtful consideration of the author’s thoughts?
– Did the student include two quotations from each text that were used appropriately and explained, in a way that is relevant to the point being made?
– Are the quotations properly formatted in MLA citation style and is there a works cited page?
– Has the paper been proof-read carefully for grammar and other sentence level errors?
