The general plot of this essay is about a guy named Roscoe that loses his job and he needs to find a way to get income for his wife and kids. He resorts to robbing a bank to get money. As they prepare to rob the bank, he feels some regret and hesitation. He shrugs off the worries and goes along with it. They set the plan into motion and drive to their target. His concerns grow even larger on the trip. They finally get to the bank armed and ready. They enter the bank like the usual gang of robbers. Wielding their weapons, they storm the bank and make their demands. Roscoe’s worries continue to grow throughout the whole thing. The plan was going well so far. The bank teller gives them all the money available. Unfortunately, there was an armed guard on duty. Gun fire breaks out. Roscoe just panics and runs for cover. The gun battle resulted in innocent people being killed. At this point, Roscoe has a turning point. He wanted nothing to do with robbing the bank anymore. It was too late. Innocent blood has been spilled and police have surrounded the area. Roscoe realizes what he has done was wrong. Trying to make a better life for his family is noble but the manner he tried to do it with wasn’t moral. The main character is given multiple life sentences. The whole point in doing the crime was for his family. Now he’s stuck in prison for the rest of his life away from his family.
Have an underlying moral of the story: thing of how you are affecting other people’s lives. You might be making your life and the lives of your family better but what lives are you stepping on and shattering in the process?
The character needs to have the progressing inner struggle of what he’s doing and then reaches a changing point.
The essay needs these five things:
1. There has to be a problem.
2. Interesting characters
3. Dialogue
4. Narrative Arch(in that there has to be conflict)
5. Character Growth(there has to be a moment of enlightenment)
