The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek

In The Infinite Game, the bestselling author Simon Sinek contextualizes business and life as games in which every individual takes part in playing. Indeed, Sinek informs his readers that there are two kinds of games, namely infinite and finite games. Each game has its fair share of rules that differs from the next. On the one hand, finite games such as basketball and football increasingly rely on a set of rules to which players are bound. Nonetheless, finite games are those that people play to a particular end. On the other hand, infinite games differ from the former because they characterize the lack of certain ends and fixed rules of engagement. Infinite games include life, business, politics, and geopolitics. According to Sinek, finite games denote the kinds that people play and win, such as the games mentioned above. However, infinite variants such as business run the course of time and, in fact, never end. The author provides definitive insights to business leaders on how to stay relevant in growing a successful organization and muster lifetime power. A review of Simon Sinek’s The Infinite Game provides comprehensive insights into the key takeaways, supporting topics, and application of learned outcomes into a personal military career and professional development.

Key Takeaway(s) from The Infinite Game

A rigorous assessment of Simon Sinek’s The Infinite Game offers uncanny wisdom to business leaders. The author confers his vast reader base with meaningful takeaways to help achieve success. A leading key takeaway from the author is leading with an infinite mindset. Simon Sinek implores his readers and business leaders in diverse industries to adopt and implement five exemplary leadership practices. These practices include finding a just cause, fostering trust, learning from worthy adversaries, possessing the courage to lead subordinates, and flexibility.1 Nonetheless, these leadership practices enable leaders to foster innovation and productivity. Such a business environment also creates a unique opportunity for various organizations to cement lasting and trustworthy relations with other business stakeholders, such as investors, customers, and the community.

Supporting Topics in The Infinite Game

Simon Sinek outlines a series of topics that shed light on how business leaders can become successful infinite players instead of playing finitely as most of them do in the current business arena. Ideally, the host of topics outlined by Sinek in his book increasingly lays the groundwork for accomplishing successful business feats in perpetuity as opposed to adopting a version of competition that leans more on the attainment of short-term goals and objectives. The following topics, argues Simon Sinek, have the potential to nurture quality leadership skills and create a transformational business environment in any organization.

Advancing a Just Business Cause

A just cause, according to Simon Sinek, refers to working towards the accomplishment of a greater vision for a better tomorrow, but that does not necessarily exist at present. Ideally, it implies aspiring to create a better foundation of something that goes beyond mere winning or satiating personal interests. Creating a just cause increasingly thrives on the ability of a leader to cement lasting relations with his or her subordinates through nurturing mutual respect and cooperation.2 In turn, this inspires others to believe in the vision and show commitment towards its attainment. A cause is just when it is idealistic (bold but ultimately attainable), inclusive (open to everyone wishing to contribute), resilient (able to outlast cultural shifts, technological advancements, and politics), as well as optimistic and affirmative. Setting the stage for the advancement of a just cause requires leaders to nurture spirited teamwork that fosters cooperation among their subordinates. One of the best ways to foster cooperation is by implementing a culture of mutual respect, accountability, and equality.

Fostering Trusting Teamwork

Sinek also surmises that leaders should aim to create business environments that thrive on trusting relations and cooperation among the workforce. Nurturing trust in an organization is crucial to fostering collaboration among employees who feel safe, protected, and appreciated for their contribution to the company.3 Sinek enunciates that creating a mood of trust in business increasingly depends on how safe and protected the employees feel when they share their frustrations and ideas about the business with their leaders. This is only possible in organizations that practice transformational leadership and cultures. It is impossible for subordinates to feel at ease and develop trust under authorities and authoritarian rule-based governance that only views them as employees and nothing more.

Flexibility

Flexibility equally features among the crucial tenets of an infinite mindset. Leaders must possess critical thinking skills to assess and come up with effective decisions designed to help the organization outmaneuver complex issues as they emerge over the course of business ventures.4

Having read Simon Sinek’s book on The Infinite Game, I am much more confident in applying the tenets discussed above in my future career path. From a personal standpoint, I intend to apply the key takeaways I have mustered from Sinek’s perspectives on leadership in creating an effective business environment that inspires spirited teamwork and encourages others to act and commit to achieving a greater version of lasting success. A human resources officer oversees the supervision and coordination of employees in any organization. As such, I plan to implement flexibility, advance a just cause, and create a culture of mutual respect, integrity, transparency, cooperation, and accountability in a bid to inspire lasting commitment (among the 7 human resource employees placed under my charge) to achieve a grander vision.

Suffice to say, a recap of Simon Sinek’s The Infinite Game provides comprehensive insights into the key takeaways, supporting topics, and application of learned outcomes into a personal military career. A key takeaway from Sinek’s book is adopting the five leadership practices of an infinite mindset as discussed herein. Simon Sinek surmises that leaders should advance a just cause rooted in a culture of mutual respect and trust to inspire spirited teamwork among their subordinates. Applying Sinek’s infinite mindset leadership practices also provides benefits at the individual and professional levels.

Surge in hospitalizations of COVID-19 Patients

A recent article from the New York Times entitled “A surge in hospitalizations is straining some U.S. health care facilities,” focuses on the problem of a surge in Covid-19 cases in rural areas of America, which is putting a strain on hospitals in those regions (Nagourney et al., 2020). The players or stakeholders involved in this issue include rural hospital administrators and staff, rural residents and communities, and state and federal government officials. The timeline of this event is ongoing, with the surge in cases starting to occur in the fall of 2021. It has come to be like this due to a combination of factors, including the spread of more transmissible variants of the virus, the relaxation of public health measures in some areas, and a lack of access to vaccines in some rural communities.

The article focuses on the surge in hospitalizations of Covid Patients

The article does not mention any specific research study. It discusses the current situation of rural hospitals in the United States being overwhelmed by a surge in hospitalization of COVID-19 patients. It cites data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the North Dakota Department of Health on the number of hospitalizations and deaths in rural areas. The article also quotes hospital officials and healthcare workers from rural areas describing their challenges. There is no mention of any research study being conducted specifically for this article.

Other ways the topic may have been studied

To add more nuance to this issue, one could conduct a qualitative research project that focuses on the experiences of rural hospital staff and administrators. This could involve conducting interviews with hospital staff, observing hospital operations, and gathering data through focus groups. In terms of collecting data, interviews with hospital staff and administrators could be conducted in person or over the phone, and observations of hospital operations could be conducted on-site. Focus groups could also be conducted with hospital staff, administrators, and community members to gather their perspectives on the issue.

Hypothetical analysis of data on the surge in hospitalizations

To analyze the data, you could use various methods, such as content analysis, to identify key themes and patterns. You could also use thematic analysis, which involves recognizing patterns and themes in the data and organizing them into categories. Additionally, you could use a discourse analysis approach to examine how language is used to construct meaning around the issue. To ensure that this research is ethical, it would be essential to obtain informed consent from participants and to protect their privacy and confidentiality. Additionally, it would be important to consider the potential harms that could arise from the research and take steps to minimize them. Overall, the results of this research provide a more detailed understanding of rural hospitals’ challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic and inform policies and strategies to address those challenges.

What causes Nervousness before a Speech?

Reasons for nervousness before a speech

A variety of things can cause nervousness before a speech. The four reasons for fear include fear of judgment, humiliation, failure, and uncertainty for themselves. The fourth fear is that people may be uncertain of themselves and their capability to present the speech in a way that reflects their ability and skills (Grieve et al., 2021). Additionally, memorizing a speech has the potential to be a flawed method of presentation for several reasons. Firstly, if a speaker has memorized their lines and stumbles during the presentation, this can leave the speaker unable to cover their mistake. Furthermore, memorized speeches lack emotion and connection with the audience because the speaker has yet to internalize their lines. Finally, with memorization, the speaker has yet to internalize their speech’s message, so they cannot improvise or vary the tone and discussion of their speech to better reflect their message.

Reducing excessive nervousness before a speech and general purposes of speeches

To reduce excessive nervousness before a speech, there are a few techniques a speaker can adopt. Firstly, the speaker can take a few deep breaths to help relax and focus on the task. Secondly, the speaker can practice reciting their speech to become more familiar with their lines and to gain a better understanding of the flow of their presentation (Frisby et al., 2020). The speaker can mentally prepare for the speech by creating positive affirmations about themselves and their performance that can help the speaker to boost their confidence before the presentation. Additionally, there are three general purposes of speeches. The first is to inform. This is done to provide listeners with new facts or ideas. The second is to persuade; getting the audience to agree with the speaker’s point of view. Finally, the third purpose is to entertain. This is done to amuse the audience and leave them with a positive experience.

The central idea of a speech

The central idea of a speech is the one main topic or point that the speaker wishes to convey. This is what the entire speech should be based on. The speaker should ensure that everything they say is relates to this idea. This can help to keep the audience engaged and ensure the audience is noting the main point of the speaker’s message (Mikkola, 2021). For example, if the central idea of the speech is to discuss the effects of social media on the youth, then the speaker should focus on how it affects the education and mental health of teenage users. Lastly, it should empower listeners to think critically and work together to create positive change. The speaker aims to spark interest, raise awareness, and drive meaningful progress.

Impeaching a Witness’s Testimony Functions

Impeaching a witness’s testimony means challenging the credibility of their statements. This can be accomplished in various ways, such as by presenting evidence that disputes their testimony or proving the witness’s partiality or ulterior motivation. A witness’s impeachment can be used to support or refute a claim, enabling a better-informed choice to be made in any particular circumstance.

The objective of impeaching a Witness’s Testimony

The goal of impeachment is to discredit a witness’ evidence so that the court would either overlook it or give it less weight by proving that they falsified a crucial fact to undermine your client’s case. A witness must be impeached if there is clear proof that they intentionally lied or gave false information (Regensburger, 2022). This goes beyond just questioning their credibility. The attorney cross-examining the witness must back up their assertions with evidence rather than merely making them. This could entail pointing out contradictions in the witness’s testimony, presenting evidence that deviates from what the witness has said, or establishing that the witness lied to assist the client’s position.

One example of impeaching a witness’s testimony is during a trial for a murder suspect. The evidence of a crucial witness, who asserts to have seen the suspect enter the home where the victim was discovered, is crucial to the prosecution’s case. The defense counsel may offer proof of the witness’s prior criminal history to show the suspect’s innocence by casting doubt on their objectivity and dependability. Alternatively, the lawyer may show that the witness was related to the victim, which might have influenced them to provide false testimony. These instances of witness impeachment can aid in reducing the strength of the prosecution’s case.

The procedure of Witness’s Testimony impeachment

Impeaching a witness’s testimony occurs by presenting evidence that questions the truth or accuracy of their narrative. It can be accomplished by offering evidence that refutes or undermines the witness’s account, proving that the witness has a reason to lie, or interrogating the witness over any inconsistencies in their account. Impeaching a witness’ testimony essentially aims to reduce the witness’s credibility and the weight of their testimony in court (Regensburger, 2022). Impeaching a witness’s testimony can also be used to develop a clearer picture of what happened. Lawyers might get to the core of what happened during the relevant occurrence by interrogating the witness and introducing evidence that disputes their account (Regensburger, 2022). It can assist in revealing the truth and offering a reliable narrative of what happened. Impeaching a witness’ testimony may also turn up previously undiscovered information or further proof.

Conclusion

In conclusion, impeaching a witness’s testimony involves presenting evidence or making arguments challenging the witness’s credibility. This process can play a significant role in determining the outcome of a trial, as it can help to determine the accuracy of the witness’s statements. A real-life example of impeaching a witness’s testimony is using evidence or arguments to challenge the reliability of a key witness in a criminal trial.

Money Laundering in Japan

Money laundering is a widespread issue that many international organizations and law enforcement agencies find quite concerning. It refers to the practice of making money that has been acquired unlawfully look genuine. For gangs involved in organized crime, terrorist organizations, and other illegal entities, concealing the source of cash is an essential source of revenue. The activity occurs in Japan via a variety of techniques and activities. The employment of shell corporations is the most common method of disguising the source of money in Japan. Shell firms exist on paper; they do not conduct any real business. They keep the source of the money and the identity of the true owner secret (Idzikowski, 2020). A shell business, for instance, may receive funds from illicit endeavors like the trafficking of illegal drugs or people. The corporation may transfer the funds to genuine companies and use them for legal activities like buying real estate or stock investments.

Using shadowy banking networks is a common way to disguise financial assets in Japan. These networks transmit money across nations outside of the banking system. The money is transferred via unofficial networks like the widely utilized hawala system in the Middle East and South Asia (Dupuis et al., 2020). In Japan, the activity sometimes employs front firms in addition to shell corporations and illicit banking networks (Dupuis et al., 2020). Through the cloaking of the legitimate source of the cash, front firms are utilized to aid asset concealment operations. For instance, cash obtained by unlawful means may be moved to a front organization and used to pay for legal products and services. The funds may subsequently be transferred back into the banking system or to offshore accounts for laundering.

Cash couriers are also used in Japan to disguise sources of money. Cash couriers move large sums of cash from one place to another. Typically, cash is used to buy real estate and opulent objects, which are then utilized to hide the real source of the funds (Tiwari et al., 2020). This is a widespread practice in Japan since it might take time to determine where the money came from. Finally, tax havens are often used in Japan to hide assets. Tax havens are nations or regions where the law permits companies to retain their earnings and revenue in a country without paying taxes (Idzikowski, 2020). This enables criminals to transfer their assets to accounts located abroad, where it is more difficult for law enforcement to identify and track the source of the funds.

The government and financial institutions must keep cooperating to stop the operations of those seeking to disguise their sources of money. Banks should adopt more stringent KYC procedures, and the government should ensure that they are appropriately implemented. Additionally, banks should be compelled to do due diligence on their clients’ accounts to ensure they are not used for money laundering (Yasaka, 2020). The government should also implement other measures to combat the practice, such as stricter punishments for individuals found guilty of the crime and more funding for law enforcement to investigate concealment operations.

The government could also consider using technical technologies to detect and monitor questionable transactions. For instance, using machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms may assist financial organizations in promptly identifying fraudulent transactions (Alkhalili et al., 2021). Lastly, the government has to do more to raise public awareness of money laundering and its effects. Public education campaigns regarding money laundering hazards and how to report suspicious activities should be launched.

Japan Anti-Gang Policy On Money Laundering

The Japanese government has established several anti-gang laws and regulations to restrict and stop money laundering. The Anti-Organized Crime Law of 1992 is the primary legislation governing Japan’s anti-gang approach to money laundering. This legislation, revised in 2008, forbids gang and other organized criminal activity (Miller et al., 2018). Additionally, it has clauses that prohibit and penalize money laundering from illegal conduct.

Other additional steps include establishing the Financial Services Agency, which includes keeping an eye on and overseeing financial institutions and improving anti-money laundering laws (Kute et al., 2021). Even if law enforcement organizations claim Japan’s anti-gang stance on money laundering activities has a good impact, additional development is required. For instance, the FATF has said that the country has to step up the implementation of its anti-money laundering laws since they are less strict than those in other wealthy nations (Idzikowski, 2020).

Research Plan

January 27- February 10

My research plan starts with formulating the research question. My research question is: How have the anti-gang policies in Japan affected money laundering activities in the country? I want to explore this question from a sociological perspective, looking at the impact of these policies on the more extensive social system of disguising money sources in Japan. I plan to consult various sources, such as academic journals, to answer this question. I will also look at the Japanese government’s official stance on money laundering and anti-gang policies, as well as the opinions of academics and industry experts. In particular, I plan to focus on the recent changes to Japan’s anti-gang laws and their impact on money laundering activities in the country.

February 11 – February 24

In this period, I intend to explore money laundering activities in Japan. Specifically, I will focus on how money laundering activities occur in Japan, what activities occur in the country, and how anti-gang policies relate to these activities. To do this, I will conduct research by consulting various sources. My primary sources of research will come from government documents and reports, including those from the Japanese government, the United Nations, and other international organizations. I will also look at academic journals and books related to money laundering and anti-gang policies in Japan.

February 25 – March 10

After consulting the sources, I will analyze the information to identify patterns and trends in money laundering activities in Japan. I will also analyze the data to determine how anti-gang policies are related to money laundering activities in the country. To do this, I will look at the different types of money laundering activities, the strategies used to carry out these activities, and the impact of anti-gang policies on the prevalence of money laundering activities. Additionally, I will explore how various forms of technology are used to facilitate money laundering activities. Specifically, I will look into the use of digital currencies, online banking, and other forms of digital payments. I will also consider organized crime groups’ role in facilitating money laundering activities in Japan.

March 11 – March 24

To further my research, I will compile all the data on money laundering and examine Japan’s victim statistics. Victim attributes will be examined with data. I will discuss Japan’s economic exploitation of money laundering and how the country’s need for financial gain is widespread. I will also study how concealing the sources of money harms victims financially, emotionally, and mentally, and their families and communities in Japan. I want to fully understand money laundering in Japan to produce entertaining and instructional material that raises awareness and highlights the need for practical solutions.

March 25 – April 10

Once I have gathered the necessary information, I will compile my findings into a research paper. My paper will explore the different forms of asset concealment activities in Japan and how anti-gang policies are related to these activities. I will also discuss how various forms of technology are used to facilitate money laundering activities and the role of organized crime groups in facilitating these activities. Additionally, I will discuss the implications of my findings and provide recommendations on how anti-gang policies can be improved in Japan. I will also provide possible resolutions to the country’s delinquent money laundering activities. I will also proofread the essay for formatting, grammar, and punctuation errors. I will also compile a list of all the sources I used for my research as a reference.

Challenges

There are several challenges that I anticipate during my research process. One of the challenges I will face is a need for more research. Due to the issue’s complexity, there will only be a few readily available research on money laundering in Japan. Additionally, I anticipate encountering language barriers, as most of the research on money laundering in Japan will be in Japanese. Moreover, I expect to be overwhelmed by the amount of research available, as there will likely be too much to sift through and analyze.

How to Overcome

To overcome the lack of research, I must be creative in my search for resources. I will have to consult sources outside academic journals and research papers, such as newspaper articles and government websites. I will rely on translation tools to help me understand Japanese to address the language barrier. I will also consult experts in the field who can provide me with insight and understanding of the language. To overcome the overwhelming amount of research, I will focus on specific topics related to cash concealment mechanisms in Japan. I will also read the research summaries and reviews to help narrow down the needed resources.

Factors leading to changes in the price of Gold

The price of gold has continued to thrive over the few days due to the protracted imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine. Gold has reportedly shown an intraday surge from its 8-month high recorded earlier today (15/02/2022) and subsequently dived beneath the $1,860 mark earlier during the European session (Panchal, 2022). The recent decline in the price of gold came about following the gradual withdrawal of Russian troops from the Ukrainian border and back to their military bases. Myriad NEWS headlines covering this supposed retreat of the Russian Federation’s military troops from the Ukrainian border quelled the much-felt worries and panic about the Kremlin’s imminent Ukrainian invasion (Panchal, 2022). However, the absence of an imminent confrontation between Kyiv and the Kremlin has eased investor tensions, pinpointing the future dipping of the price of XAU in the market.

Geopolitical Changes as agents of change in the price of Gold

Precious metals, such as gold and silver, are used as ‘safe haven’ hedges against geopolitical threats and risks like the erstwhile Russian invasion of Ukraine. Precious metals tend to produce positive outcomes in the market during geopolitical threats of war and invasion. Nonetheless, rising inflation has further presented an added advantage for the status of gold because it set the stage for its use as a preferable hedge against imminent inflation (Panchal, 2022). Any further decline in the price of gold, however, presents a potential opportunity for buying more of this safe-haven asset (XAU) as it is more poised to remain at the $1,848 – $1,850 mark (“Gold Spot US Dollar (XAU USD) News,” 2022). As it now stands, it behooves current and future stock market traders and or investors to assess future geopolitical developments keenly. Future developments in the geopolitical framework still hold a greater influence in driving forth the global risk sentiment of investment.

Industry Certification

Business people seek to have the best products or service offerings. Despite talents and skills taking prominence over product conceptualization and fabrication, it is also important to consider industry ertification, which adds credibility. Achieving professional certification requires an input of substantial effort and time. Some fields have mandatory requirements for certifications, while others do not. A rigorous investigation of industry certification helps enumerate the benefits of having certification and its application in my prospective career.

Benefits of Industry Certification

Industry certification leads to trust, credibility, and improving expertise. Having a certification is the most effective way of reassuring the customers that a particular work is dependable. Certification from a renowned institution is more believable and will give a client a higher chance of trusting an entrepreneur (Porteous). Certification also boosts credibility, shows commitment to a profession, increases the chances of partnering with other people, and attracting more clients. Despite having a talent or skill in a particular field, certification improves an understanding of the industry, allowing one to appreciate their profession. It also enables someone to improve how they deal with clients. The certification process exposes craftspeople to different industry experts who expose them to creative thinking regarding service delivery or product development (Porteous). The important acumens that certification may provide include discipline, time management, communication, and social or business skills, which are important in any profession. Therefore, people should strive to get certificates within their fields to improve trust, credibility, and expertise.

Standing out from the crowd and income growth are other important benefits of industry-based professional certification. Porteous writes that many people and companies provide the same services or develop products within the same niche in different industries. This is especially true for fields that do not necessarily require certifications. Professional development, therefore, gives one an upper hand in getting more partnerships or having access to more potential clients. Certifications normally function as badges of excellence and demonstrate the capability of an individual or an enterprise to keep up with the industry and the market trends (Porteous). Standing out attracts more clients to a business (Porteous). It is also obvious that professional development gives one a higher chance of having more income than others. As Porteous further writes, the higher income is from the increased level of the business. Certifications provide a warranty and guarantee to the quality of the product or services a client is seeking, which necessitates them to pay whichever amount they might have to the respective business owner. The ability to stand out from the crowd and potentially increase income from the business is another reason why people should consider having certifications.

Industry Certification and My Career Field

As a prospective entrepreneurial hair hairdresser, I have attended several classes on beauty and cosmetics. I have gained better perspectives about the industry throughout my study, both through learning and practical sessions. I look forward to setting up a hair salon and a barbershop, and I believe that the knowledge I have gained will improve how I work beyond my talent. I have bettered my understanding of people’s behavior, and I can diligently attend to my clients and coworkers. I also look forward to attracting a huge client base since my services will be trustworthy and credible as I understand my craft. Furthermore, I will have a more professional approach in overseeing my business which will reduce chances of losses, mitigate most risks, and increase my income.

Conclusion

Industry certification is an important aspect that every individual should seek. The major benefits of getting a professional certification include increasing one’s earnings, improving individual expertise, being distinct, and building trust and credibility. These lessons are easily applicable to any field and industry to improve productivity and profitability. Therefore, people need to get an education in their field of interest for better performance and management.

What a Wonderful World v. Girl on Fire

Specific Performances I attended

  1. A Jazz Performance broadcast featuring the Jazz Maestro, Louis Armstrong, on BBC’s Show of the Week. The performance was conducted on September 22, 1968, in London.
  2. A broadcast of an Alicia Keys Live Concert conducted on November 2, 2017, in Basel, Switzerland.

Instrumentation

The performances used almost similar sets of instrumentation together with vocals that played a major part in developing the music. The Jazz event featured a piano, a drum set, a trombone, a trumpet, and a bass. On the other hand, Alicia Keys’ performance featured some of the above instruments and additional instrumentation, including guitars, arrangers, and a DJ Kit. The instruments majorly helped in creating the music and sweetening the performances.

Solos

Unlike Louis Armstrong’s performance, Alicia Keys’ concert lacked a well-defined solo performance. In the Jazz performance, Louis Armstrong’s pianist Marty Napoleon takes on the keys and performs a jaw-dropping recital accompanied by the bass and some of the horns. Alicia Keys’ concert has a few instances where the instrumentalists take the lead, especially the solo guitarists and the pianists. Napoleon’s performance is catchy, especially how he skillfully hits the keys, showing true mastery of his craft. I liked the recital, as it seemed like some bridge during the performance and created a good feeling of Jazz music. I also enjoyed Alicia Keys’ constant take-over with her piano. However, I was not too fond of the fact that the DJ Kit was used in place of actual drumming in most cases. It would have been much better and entertaining had there been physical drums accompanying the other instruments. The solo performances and the instrumentation sessions in the respective performances were entertaining.

Comparison of the Performances

The songs selected for comparison from the two performances are Louis Armstrong’s “Blueberry Hill” and “What a Wonderful World” and Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire” and” No One.”

Louis Armstrong’s “Blueberry Hill” v. Alicia Keys’ “No One”

The two performances are notable for the emotion they build in the audience through their respective tempos. Louis can create a very uplifting level of emotions, especially with his smile and how he pours out the song’s lyrics. His performance, accompanied by the instruments, elicits a nostalgic feeling. The performance has a slower tempo, and a simple rhythm since the focus is on word delivery. Additionally, there is an occasional playing of trumpet and the trombone. Alicia Key’s “No One” picks up from the already charged “Girl on Fire” and immediately charges the crowd into a frenzy. The song makes the crowd ecstatic, especially with Alicia’s vocal abilities, and has a faster tempo compared to Louis’. The two songs create a powerhouse in the artists, with Louis seen as charming and witty, while Alicia is an energetic performer and strong vocalist. The songs stimulate feelings of love and uplift emotions, further leading the crowds into ecstatic moments.

Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” v. Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire”

The two songs are some of the most widely known and notable compositions of the individual artists in their musical careers. Louis is always on point with his signature smile and facials in the rendition of “What a Wonderful World,” which makes the song uplifting, creates a sense of nostalgia, a sense of beauty, and joy. With the slow tempo, Louis is able to blend in a regular flowing rhythm, making the song not only beautiful to listen to but delivers its message according to the title of the song. Alicia always charges the crowd with her piano skills and stage presence with her signature “Girl on Fire.” Alicia develops a lavishly inspiring and uplifting emotion in a slow to blazing tempo, leaving me yearning for more. Like in previous performances, Louis and Alicia Keys presented their musicianship in a subtle manner that easily moves the crowd while simultaneously taking the audience’s emotions high.

Overall Presentation

Alicia’s piano and Louis’ trumpet skills are always notable in their performances, matched by their vocal capabilities. The way they sang carried my emotions away, especially through exciting feelings of love, joy, some sadness, and a celebration mood, especially in Keys’ performances. The success of the emotional impact materialized from the artist’s ability to deliver lyrics with the right facials and beautifully to the crowd’s delight.

Overall Experiences

The performances changed my perspectives, especially my attitude toward Rock music, as I have traditionally been a Jazz aficionado. The shows gave me a firsthand experience of some of the best musicians in the respective genres, unlike in past experiences where I have encountered upcoming artists doing covers of mainstream music. The performances were also different in terms of instrumentation and how the audience reacted to the artists.

Place and People

I agree that the audience was charged and always appreciative of every action from the two performances. An example is when Alicia greets some audience members, and the crowd goes into a frenzy. Louis’ video does not show the audience, but people are happy and ecstatic from the response that can be heard. Louis’ stage is simple, while Alicia has a whole stage set with light effects to enhance the mood. Each audience responded accordingly to the music being performed and the respective musicians.

Best and Worst Features

The two performances were top-notch, and I felt the vibe of genres coming to life through the artistry and delivery. Each performance managed to have a beautiful blend of singing and instrumentation. However, both Louis and Alicia failed in two places. Being a Jazz performance, I believe Louis could have included a saxophone on set, and Alicia would have had a physical drummer on stage. Nevertheless, the artists achieved the goal of beautiful performances.

Rising Healthcare Costs and Insurance

The ability to charge more is a bargaining chip for hospitals and other primary care providers (Shi & Singh, 2022). Many hospitals in the United States and other concentrated markets may have higher healthcare costs than their European counterparts for the same medical services. For tax purposes, the contribution made by an employer toward an employee’s health insurance plan is deductible by the business and is not subject to withholding by the worker. This encourages businesses to invest in more lavish health plans. Overuse of care that is both necessary and expensive might be encouraged by policies like low deductibles or minimal office co-payments. After staying away in droves throughout the epidemic, many individuals return to their doctors, contributing to a gradual rise in healthcare inflation. Expenses like running the business, buying materials, and paying for overhead all rise with inflation (Shi & Singh, 2022). Further, healthcare organizations have suffered because of persistent labor shortages and decreased yearly earnings for healthcare professionals.

Increases in healthcare costs are a significant concern for many African Americans because they fear they may ultimately outpace their yearly income growth (Hall et al., 2022). So they are discussing whether to cancel or postpone treatment, much as they did during the epidemic until they can get their finances under control. However, patients with chronic diseases should prioritize meeting their healthcare requirements as soon as possible because of the lag time associated with healthcare inflation.

Diversity or Socioeconomic Disparities Which Exist with how Rising Healthcare and Insurance Costs Impacts African-Americans

Longstanding health inequalities existed between whites, people of color, and other underprivileged groups before the COVID-19 epidemic. There have also always been gaps in medical treatment for specific populations (Wikle et al., 2022). Many more people are now insured because of the Affordable Care Act’s coverage expansions. However, despite these advances, persons of color and low-income individuals continue to face more immense hurdles to getting health care since they are more likely to be uninsured.

While the health of the population as a whole has improved, numerous inequalities have remained and even become worse. Historically, people of color and low-income persons have had to overcome more obstacles to getting care, such as a higher uninsured rate, than Whites and those with higher incomes (Wikle et al., 2022). Some health outcomes have been more unequal over time, with data showing an increase in the death rates of Blacks from heart disease and AIANs from diabetes.

Evidence-based findings

Massive coverage expansions for previously underserved populations were achieved because of the ACA (Sosnovske, 2022). Increases in Medicaid eligibility and private health insurance exchanges are only two examples of the increased coverage opportunities made possible by the Affordable Care Act. Considerable coverage improvements across racial and ethnic groups have occurred since the ACA was enacted in 2010. The most dramatic increase occurred when the Medicaid and marketplace expansions were implemented in 2014. The gap between the uninsured rates of people of color and Whites shrank by a few percentage points due to more significant coverage gains among people of color as a fraction of the population. However, as of 2018, most minoritized communities still had a higher rate of uninsurance than Whites. Also, specific populations have yet to see a decline in their increased likelihood of being uninsured compared to Whites. Between 2010 and 2018, the uninsured rate among Blacks remained 1.5 times higher than Whites, while Hispanics’ uninsured rate was nearly 2.5 times higher than Whites (Sosnovske, 2022). Gains in coverage were exceptionally high for the lowest-income people, helping to reduce the gap in uninsurance rates between the poor and the rest of the population.

Unnecessary expenses are incurred, and improvements in care quality and population health are stymied when health and healthcare inequities exist. As the population gets more varied, it becomes more critical to eliminate health inequalities. In 2050, it is expected that people of color will make up more than half of the population (Moyer et al., 2022). Efforts to reduce health and healthcare inequities are vital not just from an equality viewpoint but also for advancing health by enhancing the quality of care and the population’s health. In addition, there is a monetary penalty associated with health inequities. Premature deaths account for $27 billion in annual economic losses, while the additional cost of medical treatment caused by inequalities is estimated to be $93 billion.

A concerted and sustained effort is needed to reduce the United States’ racial/ethnic health coverage, chronic illness, mental health, and mortality gaps (Lemley, 2022). Disparities in health and health care must be addressed for the sake of social justice and equality, as well as for the health and prosperity of the country as a whole. Higher disease and mortality rates among people of color and other disadvantaged groups due to various health issues diminish the nation’s health. Costs to society have been linked to health inequalities. Economic losses owing to early deaths and higher medical expenses are estimated at $93 billion yearly, while lost productivity costs an extra $42 billion (Kapiriri& Razavi, 2022). Considering that people of color are expected to make up more than half of the population by 2050, we must work to eliminate inequalities as quickly as possible.

Predicted Outcomes and Opportunities for Growth

Future coverage losses may likely occur due to recent policy shifts and present objectives. There were measures in the ACA that helped the cause of reducing inequalities. Many underserved groups, including African-Americans, benefited from the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) coverage expansions and money for community health centers and other measures specifically aimed at eliminating inequities (Snowden & Michaels, 2022). Health and Human Services (HHS) at the federal level is taking several steps to implement its strategy to end health inequalities based on race and ethnicity, first introduced in 2011. Efforts to eliminate health inequalities are being made on many levels, including by states, local communities, commercial groups, and clinicians, and increasingly include consideration of socioeconomic issues that may affect health.

The creation of HHS agency-level Offices of Minority Health to coordinate disparity reduction initiatives is only one example of the ACA’s stated emphasis on eliminating inequalities (Snowden & Michaels, 2022). The ACA also increased financing for healthcare professional training and education materials focusing on cultural competence, as well as bolstered data collecting and research initiatives, all in an attempt to encourage diversity and cultural competency in the workplace. The ACA also established the Preventative and Public Health Fund and featured many public health and prevention programs.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there is still a long way to go to eliminate racial and socioeconomic gaps in health and health care. The COVID-19 epidemic has highlighted the severity of these inequalities and the urgency with which they must be addressed. Racism underpins structural social and economic inequalities that contribute to health disparities. Reducing inequalities is critical to our society’s well-being and our economy’s success. The federal government has made achieving fairness a top goal, and many programs have been created to reduce inequities in light of COVID-19 and beyond. Efforts to eliminate health inequalities are being made on several levels, including by states, communities, private groups, and healthcare professionals. We can achieve health equity by giving equity a high priority across all sectors, allocating resources to support efforts to advance equity, expanding data accessibility, fostering and building on community strengths and resources, establishing incentives, accountability, and oversight for equity, and acknowledging and addressing racism as the primary driver of disparities.

Professional Social Work and Human Services

Summary Essay of Chapter 1: The Social Work Profession (Introduction to Social Work)

Social workers provide social support to various people. The focus of social work is increasingly invested in the provision of pro-social support designed to ensure people have the much-needed access to security, basic needs, and wants (Cox et al. 42). By this token of logic, professional social work seemingly entails the provision of shelter, food, water, and other social, emotional, or social support to individuals in need.

Professional Social Work requires Strong Ethical Values

Human service professionals increasingly provide support to wide-ranging clientele in different environments and communities. The people tasked with training human service professionals encourage and promote unique norms and values as tenets of human services (Cox et al. 44). Therefore, human service professionals make it a top-notch priority to uphold the use of strong ethical values and integrity in meting out their professional services to their vast clientele in society. Human service professionals rely on ethical values and integrity while providing their services to satiate the development of numerous human need outcomes (Cox et al. 44). In particular, human service professionals use ethics to encourage the wellbeing of both the community and the clients. Therefore, the social work profession is grounded on strong moral values.

Professional Social Work seeks to increase Equality

Professional social work increasingly seeks to provide and proliferate the distribution of equality and fairness to all and sundry. Human services are essential in the provision of free and fair sociopolitical dynamics in society. Eradication of different social ills is at the center of human services (Cox et al. 48). Ideally, social workers seemingly proscribe the proliferation of all forms of discrimination targeted towards myriad individuals. Hence, promoting equity and justice is an important feature of the social work service.

Conclusion

A review of this chapter examines various aspects of the human services profession. Social workers provide human services to vulnerable groups in society. Social work, therefore, entails the provision of a diverse array of needs to vulnerable groups ranging from food, shelter, water, and emotional support to social help. Social workers rely on ethics to guide the prospects of their social support provision.
