Each student will evaluate a standardized assessment and present your findings.
You must get approval from the instructor for your chosen assessment prior to beginning
your research. Try to choose an assessment that you may come across in your work setting, if
possible. The purpose of this assignment is to explore an instrument so that you understand
how it should be used, what its strengths and weaknesses are, who uses it and why, and what
implications there are for using this tool for assessment purposes. Also, choose a paper and
write about the latest/current research in regards to your assessment and relate its findings.
You should consult other resources (e.g., Mental Measurement Yearbook, Tests in Print, and
Buros Test Reviews, etc.) and use at least five references to complete this assignment. Papers
are to be typed and free of grammatical and spelling errors. Papers should be, at least, ten
pages long. Cover page, abstract and your reference page do not count. Cite your
sources using APA Style.
Include the following in your paper:
1. Basic Test Information
a. Historical origins of the instrument
b. Why was it created?
c. Theories that underpinned its creation
d. Author(s), Publisher, Year of Publication
e. Cost
2. Administration and Interpretation
a. Structure of test and items (e.g., subscales, subtests, number of items, types of
items, etc.).
i. Show examples from the assessment or items typical of what would be in
the instrument
b. Qualifications needed to administer and interpret the instrument (A, B, or C

c. Time to administer the assessment
3. Stats Related to the Instrument
a. Reliability data
b. Validity data
4. Critique of the Assessment
a. Any data available about the population used to standardize the assessment (e.g.,
gender, race, age, etc.).
i. Discuss limitations for certain populations
b. Controversy about the instrument and/or instruments like it (cite sources)
c. What are some strengths and limitations of the instrument?
5. Latest/Current Research Related to the Assessment
6. References (at least five sources cited in APA format)
