Amy Tan describes the various Englishes with which she grew up, and she
demonstrates several in her essay. List, categorize, and define each one, and
give an example from the text of each. Then write a paragraph about how Tan
incorporates these different Englishes into her writing to develop her ideas. In
other words, what do her examples tell us about how language, culture, and
identity intersect?
