I’m studying for my Law class and need an explanation.

Students will read chapter 2 of the Kappeler and Potter text, The Mythology of Crime and Criminal Justice.

Upon completion of the weekly Kappeler and Potter chapter reading assignment, students will then submit a two-page summation, outlining crime images of the reality of crime. The summations should concentrate on the three factors of crime images. The summation should also encompass the reading requirement of this week.

The weekly summation will not require a title page, so focus on your essay portion for your case study. Ensure that factual information provided in your essay is supported by listing your references at the end of your case study and citing your references within your essay. Points will be taken off for lack of content, spelling, composition, and grammatical errors and/or for a late submission.

3. Click on Case Studies and then click on Norms and Expectations.  I encourage you to print this out. 
4. Read and complete 2 case studies from two different levels (A, B, or C). The decision about which cases to complete should be a group decision.
5. Read the Star Sheets for this material. These sheets summarize the research and how to’s that address the case material.  In other words, these pages teach you what you need to know in order to do this assignment.  Each case tells you what concepts you need to apply under, Possible strategies.  You should also refer to what you learned in the readings and material for this course. You should follow APA to give credit for ideas as you compose your solutions.

   Your paper should have the following parts for each case:

   • Introduction to the case in your own words
   • Summary of each problem or question to be addressed
   • A response based on what the star sheets taught you and the other readings and materials for the course.  Be sure to give credit for ideas but put your answers in your own words.  DO NOT COPY FROM THE STAR SHEETS.  You can use (star sheet, p. xx) as a format.
   • A response based on what texts have to say on the topic.  DO NOT COPY.  Use your own words.  You can use (Author, date, p. xx) as a format.

   • You can also talk about what other sources said.

Scenario/Summary

In the United States, Google maintains its market share and seems well-positioned for continual rapid growth into the future. The company has dominated the search market, cornered the advertising space, and is well on its way toward winning Windows-like market share in the mobile space. However, it has run into several major problems with its international operations. A number of countries are finding more and more issues with Google. These include the European Union’s claim of anticompetitiveness practices with Google’s search services and China’s politically based restrictions limiting accessibility.

In this week’s case study, you will be investigating the problems Google has faced in this area and what it did to attempt to deal with them. Two of the references given in this week’s assignment will help get you started in your research and identify the problem(s) that Google faced.

Deliverables

Your deliverable this week will be a completed case study (3 to 5 pages) submitted on the issues Google faced and what the response to them was

Case Study Steps

STEP 1: Research Issue

In this step, you need to find out the questions “how” and “why” of Google’s problems. Start with reading what has been written about it in your reading assignment this week—two of the references deal with Google’s problems:

“Growing Pains for Google” by Elizabet Montalbo

“Google’s Growing Pains” by Edward Cone

Using these as a start to give you an overview of the problems Google faced. These articles, along with others you will find in your research and on the Web, should allow you to answer the “how” and “why” of the situation Google faced and their actions in handling it.

STEP 2: Write the Study

Use the case study template to complete a 3–5 page report on your research. Include the sections listed below as needed.

Introduction—a brief introduction to the company and its problem or situation

Issue/Problems—identify all the issues or problems faced by the company

Actions Taken—what was the company’s response on dealing with the issues?

Results—what were the results of the company’s efforts? Did they work? Why or why not?

References—list all research references used

Don’t forget to proof and fact-check your case study. If you are using quotes from sources, or data from an unreliable source, you should attempt to find a better source, or remove them. This is sometimes called “establishing rigor.” Make sure your case study is credible, transferable, verifiable, and dependable.
