Recommendation: Lakota Woman, which is a book written by (then) Mary Crow Dog. I read this book in graduate school. This is a true story and it will add to your knowledge of many things, including Native American activism during the 1970’s and accounts of violence against native women on and off reservations. I really can’t recommend this book highly enough. It’s not a long or complicated read, and it had a powerful impact upon me.
