Professional values and behaviors
Professional values are important for the interprofessional team members to possess to complete the project. Professional values such as respect, trust, and collaboration are key to working together effectively. Respect for the expertise and experience of each other is essential. All members must trust each other to be honest and transparent and be willing to compromise to come up with the best solution. Additionally, collaboration is key to working together and helping others reach the desired outcome (Zumstein‐Shaha & Grace, 2023). In order to work together, members must be willing to listen to each other, consider different points of view, and seek to understand the perspectives of others.
Professionalism is also an important value to possess. Professionalism requires the members to focus on the task at hand, adhere to the team’s mission, and hold each other accountable to complete the project. Professionalism also includes being open to feedback and criticism from other members. Integrity is another important value for interprofessional team members (Poorchangizi et al., 2019). This value requires the members to be honest and trustworthy and to do the right thing even when it is difficult or uncomfortable.
Finally, responsibility is an important value for the members to possess. Responsibility involves being accountable for the group’s decisions and actions and the project’s outcome. It also includes taking ownership of the project and its results. Interprofessional team members must possess professional values and behaviors to work together successfully and complete the project. These values include respect, trust, collaboration, professionalism, integrity, and responsibility.
It is important to behave professionally when working with other interprofessional team members on an evidence-based project because it fosters respect, trust, and collaboration (Zumstein‐Shaha & Grace, 2023). Professional values such as integrity, respect, and accountability should be upheld to create an effective, productive, and harmonious environment. Professional behaviors include active listening, open-mindedness, and participation in discussions and decisions. In this case, examples of inappropriate behaviors for the group members would be making assumptions about other members’ ideas and perspectives, refusing to compromise, and dominating the conversation. Additionally, any disrespectful or unprofessional language should be avoided.
My values are respect, integrity, and empathy. Respect is the foundation of any successful relationship and is especially important in an interprofessional setting. Respect for each other’s opinions, perspectives, and experiences is essential for team members to work together effectively. In my nursing practice, this translates into actively listening to my colleagues and valuing their input. I make sure to show respect for all team members, regardless of their discipline, and to always treat each other with kindness and understanding.
Integrity is also a value that is important to me. In my nursing practice, this means being honest and truthful. This means being open to feedback and criticism and being honest about my mistakes (Poorchangizi et al., 2019). It also means being reliable and accountable regarding my tasks and projects. Finally, empathy is a value that I strive to embody in my professional life. This means understanding and being sensitive to my colleagues’ and patients’ needs and emotions. I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment for my patients and to be a compassionate listener actively. These values are essential for me in my nursing practice and for fostering a successful and productive interprofessional team. I strive to embody these values and behaviors in all my interactions with my colleagues and patients.
