In connection with the readings and videos for this week, we shall be discussing as a group the materials for this week.

As a reminder here is the list of materials, we covered for the week:

• Paulo Freire | Chapter 2 of Pedagogy of the Oppressed
• Teach Us All (2017, Netflix)

STEP 1:

After you have reviewed your notes/annotations on the videos and readings for this week, respond to the following questions:

1. How did you feel reading through this week’s articles and watching the videos? Were they easy or hard to read/watch? What did you like/dislike about them? What, if any, connections can you make between the experiences of the authors and speakers and your own experiences? (This answer should cover all sources for the week.)
2. Share at least three points that stood out to you from the materials this week?
3. What are at least three quotes from any of the sources that you connected with? Why do you feel it is significant? Why did you choose it?
4. What was your biggest A-HA moment or takeaway? (This can be from any of the sources or involve all of them.)

To help you understand the relationship between legal decisions and practice, for this Discussion you focus on how legal decisions inform clinical mental health counseling practices and impact the counseling profession. As part of this Discussion, you search the Walden Library for relevant legal decisions to use as examples.

To prepare for this Discussion: 

·         In the Learning Resources, review the course text chapter and the article, “Tarasoff and the Duty to Protect.” Think about how legal decisions impact the clinical mental health counseling profession.  

·         Using the Walden Library, search for laws that have influenced the counseling profession, using keywords such as laws, counseling, legal decisions regarding same-sex marriage, abortion, elder abuse, child abuse, teen pregnancy, gangs, sexual harassment, or assisted suicide.
