If the next president were to appoint a Cabinet member to worry about future generations, what would be ‘Job One’? Got an idea?

My classmate Denise responded:

If the next president were to appoint a Cabinet member to worry about future generations, job one would be making sure future generations are better off than past and present generations. Tackling the long term education crisis is vital. The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) would be the first law to be abolished. Children who are more advanced than others should not have to suffer, be bored, relearn and wait till other children are taught by the teacher the material the advance children know. Children should be prepared for higher education, the future and workforce and not taught how to pass a state standardized test.

The NCLB law grew the federal footprint in kindergarten thru twelfth grade education. The law relies heavily on standardized tests and emphasis on math and reading tests narrow curriculum, forcing schools to spend less time on subjects which are not explicitly tested.

Many districts and states ignore parts of the law. The most ignored part of the law is high qualified teachers are evenly distributed between poor and wealthier schools.

Children whose parents take time to teach their children the necessary material for school should not be punished because other parents do not take time to teach necessary curriculum.
