For this writing assignment, you are required to research information about oil or natural gas and should focus on what you have learned about how either energy source
relates to electrical generation.
You can use the Internet, books, magazines, etc. to conduct research. After researching one of topics, compose a written report and submit it to the Dropbox
associated with this assignment. Your work must be composed using word processing software (Microsoft Word) and submitted to the Dropbox as an attachment.
In your report, I am not as interested that you explain to me what oil or natural gas is derived from (we all already know—fossil fuel), or what either can be used
for–combustion (we all already know–a liquid or a gas can be burned to make heat). These are just examples to show you I am looking for you to dig a little deeper
into “oil or gas used for power generation.” Yes, there are other sources of information out there besides Wikipedia! Challenge yourself by doing more than
“superficial research” using Wikipedia. Then compose a written report in your own words about what you learned.
What NOT to do:
In a nutshell… do not use Wikipedia to learn that there are a few hundred gas-fired power plants in the world—this is just one example to show you I am looking
for a little more substance and effort than that.
Copy the words from a website onto an MS Word document and change a few of the words in an attempt to make the words “your own.” This research report must be
written in your own words.
What to do:
Make sure to properly cite the source of your research information in your work.
Refer to the “Written Assignment Guidelines” (found in the course syllabus) for information about how to format and compose your work (using MLA format, etc.).
Do some research and compose your own report in your own words. Turnitin software will be used to determine the originality of your report and the quality of your
written work. If you are not familiar with Turnitin, there is a tab called Turnitin in the Course Home section that provides information about the originality
software.
Your report will be no less than 500 words in length, which is approximately a 1 & 1/2 page report.
