Topic 1:
Gender stereo-typing is something that i think all of us do subconsciously. We all believe that a boy should be more rough and use more of there gross motor skills to climb trees and skin there knees. Where for girls we expect them to be cleaner and develop more of there fine motor skills while having tea parties. As parents we play a roll is implementing these stereo-types. researcher found that mother and fathers do treat there sons and daughters differently. (Berns, 2016, p.488) Fathers in particular will engage in a rougher play with there sons and a softer cuddly play with there daughters. (Berns, 2016, p.488) We will buy out sons toy trucks or boxing gloves and we will buy our daughters dolls and play houses. When a baby is born and you find out the sex of your child it is either pink or blue and we will decorate there rooms accordingly. I went to my local target store and they have the toys arranged in one section being the girl toys and another section had the shelves facing a different direction to make a distinct line of where the boy section of toys were located. My daughter stated she didn’t want to go look at the “boy section” of the toys only the “girl section”. Gender stereo-typing is all around us.
Topic 2:
As a parent I feel like I have to self regulate my emotions on a much more frequent basis specifically with the corona virus among us. I have to have the ability to regulate and control my impulses and behaviors or emotions until I am in an appropriate setting. (Berns, 2016,p453) This is a very scary time that we are in and there have been times that I had to downplay my fears and sadness about the whole situation until after my daughter went to bed and I had some alone time to cry and express myself.
