The first is a simple book report — using the children’s novel The Phantom Tollbooth as a basis, compare and contrast current American society with that which existed when the novel was written. The paper should be at least 500 words in length, double spaced, properly cited (in MLA format). The book can be obtained in a couple of ways — one, through a library or by buying the book, choice is yours. Another possibility is to do a cultural analysis of a movie. Any movie that shows interaction between two identifiable cultures is fair game. Avatar is one, Cowboys and Aliens is another. As long as there is cultural conflict give it a shot.
