A compound sentence has two or more main clauses.
Example:One part of the television screen showed the baseball game, and the weather alert scrolled on the bottom of the screen. There are two distinct clauses in this single sentence, making it a compound sentence. The compound sentence could easily be made in to two simple sentences.One part of the television screen showed the baseball game. The weather alert scrolled on the bottom of the screen.
