Need help with my English question – I’m studying for my class.

1. The people who favor the tax-increase bill will give you lots of reasons why they think it should be passed. But, in fact it is a lousy bill that should be defeated because it Senator Whitney Berton supports it. You know him, the guy who is widely suspected of being guilty of tax evasion.
2. Students from Jefferson High School are all so friendly and helpful. I’m sure of this because just last week I got lost and a very helpful and friendly student got me all straightened out.
3. Despite the women’s movement in the 1970s, women still do not receive equal pay for equal worth. Obviously, all such attempts to change the status quo are doomed to failure.
4. We could improve the undergraduate experience with co-ed dorms since both men and women benefit from living with the opposite gender.
5. It should be against the law to fire a woman because she gets pregnant. They don’t fire a man for fathering a child.
6. Legalization of abortion will lead to murder of the old and the physically and mentally handicapped.
7. We may support this petition for a Gender Studies major, or we may turn our backs on progress, reject the petition and suffer the consequences.

Trying to Sell Your Audio System

You are trying to sell your audio system (an amplifier and speakers) to raise money for an upcoming trip to overseas. The system works great, and audiophile friend tell you that if he were in the market for this kind of equipment (which he isn’t), he’d give you $500 for it. A few days later the first potential buyer comes to see the system. The buyer looks it over and asks a few questions about it. You assure the buyer that the system works well. When asked how much, you tell the buyer that you have already had an offer for $500. The buyer purchases the system for $550. 

• Justify and explain your decision to lie about having the second offer, and what were the consequences of your decision to lie to the buyer.

References must come from sources such as, scholarly journals found in EBSCOhost, CNN, online newspapers such as, The Wall Street Journal, government websites, etc. Sources such as, Wikis, Yahoo Answers, eHow, blogs, etc. are not acceptable for academic writing.

Types of interest groups most active in congress.                     C. interest group lobbying tactics in congress.  D. 3. Discuss: A. Domestic congressional public policy making.  B. The new role of congress in national security public policy making. 

4. Discuss: A .Congress and the president:  Why the president has acquired leadership in Congress and how can Congress respond.  B.  Congress and the Bureaucracy:  The role of Congress in the bureaucracy.  C. Congress and the courts:  The role of Congress in the judicial system.

5.  Discuss:  A. Perspectives of congress from a more positive and less critical view.  B. The major challenges facing the congress.

Assignment: Drawing on the Cockerham material, turn in a 300-500 word essay arguing for those aspects of health care reform that you believe provide the best evidence for addressing sociological issues of equal access, patient needs, accountability, role of profit, etc.
