Criminal Justice Research Methods

Consider the following question: Does serving time in prison make criminals “worse”? The definition of “worse” is up to you (i.e., worse in terms of what?). Present one research hypothesis incorporating your definition that is related to the question above. Next, describe one research design that could be used to test your hypothesis. You must choose one of the general types of research designs discussed in the presentations (experimental, quasi-experimental, or non-experimental), and then describe the specific aspects of your design. Explain how this design is either experimental, quasi-experimental, or non-experimental.

Criminal Justice research Methods

Part 1

Answer topic with 300-word minimum

Discussion Topic: Reasoning

People make common errors in everyday analysis of situations that can be overcome using scientific principles. What errors do people commonly make in reasoning? Give an example of one type of error.

Part 2

Milestone Learning Activity

Unit 1 Milestone Learning Activity: Choosing a Topic

This week you will choose a general topic for your research and write a potential problem statement. Your final proposal will be evaluative research so when thinking about a topic, consider the relationship between two phenomena (people, places, things) in the field of criminal justice which are of interest to you. It is important to be able to visualize your topic. Abstract and complex phenomena such as corruption or human trafficking may be too complicated for the purpose of this assignment. Keep your topic simple; you will shape this into a more specific topic over the next two units.

Choose one topic from the list. Attached

Respond to the Milestone Learning activity by identifying your general topic and potential problem statement.

Think about a possible problem within this topic.

Ask yourself the following questions to test if your problem is “researchable.”

Is there something specific that might be causing this problem?

Is there a solution that might reduce the likelihood of this problem?

Example

General Topic: Traffic

Problem: People (vehicles) are running Red Lights NOTE: Students only need to provide 1 or 2 sentences for this Milestone Learning Activity (MLA) as illustrated above in my example.
