For the fiction activity, you will create a short report on the author James Agee. Include in the report an historical element, a literary element, and a personal response. Follow these guidelines:

Task 1: Read an excerpt from James Agee’s A Death in the Family / Knoxville: Summer, 1915 (pages 3-7) and part of Chapter 1 (pages 11-15 and 18-21).

Task 2: Historical
1. Choose one historical element that is described in the Agee reading passages. This element might be a landmark he refers to such as a building or a cultural reference.
2. Research this historical element and write a well-developed paragraph (12-15 sentences) on it. You may include a photo if one is available.
3. Provide citations for borrowed materials.
Task 3: Literary (Paragraph 2)
1. Choose an element of fiction such as setting or character from the reading passage. For partial list of literary elements, see chapters 6-10 in Literature and the Writing Process.
2. Find two examples of how Agee uses the element of fiction. Quote each example and then explain the use of the element. Write a 10-15 sentence paragraph on each example. The quotations will not be included in the word count.
3. Provide citations for quotations and borrowed materials.

1. Address the following in your personal response: What did you learn about local history and literary elements from working on this project?
