1. Pose a problematic question on any topic found, or related to something in Food Inc. that
deals with an issue related to the food we consume, and come to an arguable conclusion
about it.
2. Analyze the situation in all dimensions. This includes defining key terms, determining
causes, understanding historical significance, and appreciating human dimensions and
your topic’s connection to your own personal experience. Get your readers to appreciate
what makes your topic problematic and/or complex.
3. Prove your ability (and doggedness) to find, gather, and interpret facts, data, and other
information relevant to the problem. Tell your readers something we don’t already know
about the topic. Contrast between common wisdom and your own unique knowledge or
experience.
4. Propose a solution to the problem. Think about different ways in which the question
might be answered, and consider different perspectives.
5. Be sure to prove your ability to analyze competing approaches and answers, to construct
arguments for and against alternatives, and to choose the best solution.
