Write a response to the following in 250 words. Include one question to pose to the class to add to class as it relates to the response.
This week we will explore multi-cultural competence as it relates to your future as helping professionals. When classes are homogenous and all participants are headed to the same career, it is easier to explore culture training from a single perspective. However, each of you may be drawn to vastly different fields, and you need to be aware of how your field interacts with people from varying backgrounds.
One thing to note, I always remember one of my Master’s faculty saying that he hated the term “multi-cultural competence.” He said it gives the idea that someone can become competent in that area, but that it should be an attitude and position rather than a goal to achieve. I tend to agree with him.
