We’re watching the movie W this week. As you work on your papers, I want you to understand that the analysis of names applies only to Giant because that is a fictional work. The characters in W are real people, so do not discuss the meaning of names such as George, Richard, Colin, Laura, Barbara, etc. However, you should make a note that the Bush family makes a habit of giving each generation the names of forbears. For example, there is usually at least one “George” in each generation. Dubya and Laura named their daughters after the girls’ grandmothers (Jenna and Barbara). The “Walker” in Dubya and his father’s names come from the “Walker” side of the family (the first Bush president’s mother). George Herbert Walker Bush’s grandfather’s name was…George Herbert Walker.
