Music-Meaning Event (Due February 27)
You will attend one live musical event (free ones would be great — ASU has plenty). While you are attending the event, respectfully note what you are feeling, what musicians and other artists are doing, what the content of the event is, and how those things combine to create meaning for you and other participants/observers engaged in the musical event. Write up your findings in a 500-750 word (two-to-three pages, double spaced) paper, and upload the paper here.
Consider discussing Levitin’s organizing principles of sound, Small’s orders of relationships, and Sacks’ musical imagery. Analyze your notes and describe how the event may have been meaningful for the participants/performers (in their view), other listeners, and how it was meaningful to you.
