Proposal details:
Give brief details of your research proposal. What will you be investigating and
why?
Proposal of the study is done to investigate short term memory and will be done to investigate if female would have better recall for words, pictures or both words and pictures together. I would like to investigate if female have better recall of words, pictures or words and pictures show together based on study done by Srivasrava et. Al (1979) and support the hypothesis that pictures and words are better recall together than words alone under noise and quiet environment. Short term memory last for about 20-30 seconds after which it is lost or it stated to be proceeded to long term memory (Lemme, 2002).
What is your hypothesis?
– The hypothesis is that words and pictures will have better recall then works and pictures separated in the quiet environment.
Where you will collect data?
I will have two groups of participants. One group will be in a classroom with
silent background and other one in a restaurant with noisy background.
Sampling method?
I will use a sheet of paper format A4 with 16 words in two columns. Each column will consist of
8 words in Arial style, Font size 36. Category of the words will be animals, peoples names
and common objects (e.g. dog, cat, book, sun).

I’m going to use two groups of participants each consisting of 10 females.

I’m going to measure how many words participants can recall under each condition.
What are the ethical considerations of your study?
I will explain to the participants how the research will be carried out and that they have the right at any time to withdraw. They will sign a consent form as an agreement to the research. After finishing research participants will be debriefed and reminded of their right to withdraw at any time up to 7 days after taking part.
I will also explain if participants after participating in this research experience any psychological effects to contact student support services or counseling services at University of Derby or their general practitioner.
The participants will be also ensuring that all their data will be securely stored and destroyed afterwards.
The research will confirm to the participants that the data collected is strictly confidential and only collect a unique ID so that the data can be withdrawn if they so request.
