What is the purpose of a national legislative body such as the Congress in a democracy? Identify an overarching purpose or mission statement for the Congress in American democracy, based on your values. Does our national legislature (the Congress) have a different purpose in our democracy than the national legislatures of other democracies such as Australia (Parliament), Norway (the Storting), Japan (the Diet), Israel (the Knesset), Ireland (the Oireachtas), Italy (the Parlamento), Mexico (the Congreso de la Union), and others?
