Recall…. A decimal is a way of showing fractions which have their denominators as powers of 10.
The 1st decimal place shows “tenths” ie ##1/10##
The 2nd decimal place shows “hundredths” ie ##1/100##
The 3rd decimal place shows “thousandths” ie ##1/1000##
In this case we have 1.4.
This means ##1 4/10##, which can simplify to ##1 2/5##
But we could also have seen the entire number as being in tenths..
##1.4 = 14/10 = 7/5 = 1 2/5##
