Write a bad news letter with the given scenario.

Can you help me understand this Communications question?

Dan Adérman, a former employee of yours at Dynamic Designs, has requested that you send a letter of recommendation on his behalf. Dan was employed by your company for five years. However, you did not directly supervise him and do not have enough knowledge of his work ethic to write a recommendation letter. Write him a letter denying his request.

Requirements:

  • Include an APA Cover Page (Make sure to follow all APA rules!)
  • Must be typed (using 12 pt. Times New Roman); should be a single page
  • Design a full company letterhead. (The more creative the better, but keep it professional)
    • Include company name, webpage, logo, e-mail, physical address, and phone number.
    • Follow the block format sample on Blackboard for a business letter.
    • Sign the letter!
  • Must utilize the guidelines and examples for negative messages discussed in your text and in class. Follow this format (in this order) to make your message indirect:
    • Opening buffer (1 Paragraph. Neutral, welcoming)
    • Follow with reasons (1 paragraph. the guidelines)
    • Then state the bad news (1-2 sentences)
    • End with a positive close (1 paragraph, positive close, sincerity)
  • Watch for grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, typos, etc.
