Assignment 2: Review of Validated Measurement Scales
Identify a scale or procedure that has been constructed for the purpose of scientifically measuring an abstract concept with a high degree of reliability and validity. (in terms of measurement, conceptualization, operationalization)
Describe the following:
- What is the scale intended to measure? Provide as much of an operational definition of the concept being measured as possible, with specific reference to the definitions provided in the scale validation study.
- How was the scale constructed, tested/validated? (For scales developed for academic & general research purposes, you can generally find a peer-reviewed research article which describes the study through which the scale was constructed.
- What questions are asked on the instrument?
- How are the responses scored in order to arrive at a measure of the concept being studied?
- Be prepared to describe the scale, what it is used for, how it is administered, and how it is scored, to your classmates during out next class session.
