Responses to Art –
Choose one (1) topic, from the seven (7) topics listed below, for your reflection. Prepare a 2-4 page, (700 to 1400 words) double-spaced, response for your chosen topic. Reply to the discussion subject in its entirety. Refer to your text as well as at least two (2) other reference sources to develop your responses. DO NOT USE Wikipedia, or any other unscholarly website. Scholarly websites have footnotes/endnotes and the author of the work is identifiable. Use parenthetical references when citing sources. Include images, where applicable, to support or substantiate responses. Upload your papers in Microsoft Word (.doc) formatfile using the upload tool below.

Additionally, include one reference page that lists all sources used to respond to the topics. Use the MLA format on your paper and reference page.
Topics:
1. Discuss the events and technological developments that led to Impressionism and explain how the movement got its name, mentioning specific artists and/or works to support your statements.
2. Compare and contrast the Italian Renaissance and the Northern Renaissance, discussing specific artistic and works to support your statements.
3. List and describe three of the technological breakthroughs or discoveries that changed art during the Modern Era, 1800-1945. Indicate specific ways in which these changed the form and/or content, themes, purposes/functions of art, and the lives of artists.
4. Identify and describe the impact of one architect of the 20th and/or 21st century whom you consider a major technical, artistic, or philosophical innovator. Discuss at least one structure designed by this architect as an example of his/her work.
5. Discuss changes in the visual arts of painting, sculpture, and architecture, along with changes in attitudes about the arts, explaining several ways in which the public’s perception of artists changed. How did these new perceptions and attitudes affect the social, economic, and creative lives of artist, including their newly defined relationships with their patrons?
6. Explain the relationship between Neo-Classical art and the revolutionary movements in the 18th century. Support your points with references to specific works of the period.
7. Identify define or describe, and finally compare and contrast two of the Expressionists groups of the early 20th century. Refer to specific artists and works to illustrate your points.
